The massage therapy program is a three semester course that offers deep tissue, medical, and therapeutic massage training. Approved in both Tennessee and Georgia, this diploma program trains students in techniques that include: direct and indirect fascial work, muscle energy techniques, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy and craniosacral therapy. Students learn to interview and evaluate patients in order to provide them with a personal therapy plan. Instructors employ the latest equipment as they teach diverse therapies like oral temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, dysfunction treatment, as well as the modalities of pregnancy, infant, geriatric, and sports massage.
The program employs the ancient techniques of energy work, practiced by Asian cultures, through acupressure, Shiatsu, Reiki, polarity, and other energy based bodywork techniques.
For students who are inclined to work in the spa environment, we offer some of the most sought after dry room spa techniques, such as hot stone massage, body wraps, paraffin wax treatments, and reflexology.
Students in the program are automatically members of SkillsUSA, and are given the opportunity to compete at both the state and national levels. In the last four years students from our program have won gold medals at the state level every year, as well as two collegiate national gold medals, one silver medal and a fifth place finish.
A new career could happen for you with the Therapeutic Massage program from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Chattanooga State.
